Taverns were essential for colonial Americans. In the taverns the colonists learned current crop prices, arranged trades, heard newspapers read aloud, and discovered business opportunities and the latest betting odds on the upcoming horse races. For most rural Americans taverns were the chief link to the greater world, playing a role much like the city marketplace in Europe and Latin America.
Park Central Tavern opened in 2009 in the tight-knit Hamden neighborhood of Spring Glen as an independently owned and operated eatery offering classic American tavern fare. Harry Scoble and Larry Coassin, longtime friends and zealous patrons of restaurants the world over, ventured into business together to bring some of their favorite eating, drinking and social experiences to their community. Perched between Park and Central Ave, the Tavern serves as a place for great weeknight eats with a personal touch as well as hosts large special occasions of all sizes. In 2011 Larry and Harry partnered with the Sobocinski Brothers of Caseus Fromagerie Bistro to refine their menu and create an alliance between the two restaurants to better serve their customers. With the addition of Executive Chef Erin Hunt, Park Central Tavern will quickly become your favorite restaurant!
